Alpine Rendez‐Vous 2013

The Alpine Rendez‐Vous (ARV) is a now well established atypical scientific event focused on Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). After ARV’07 in Villars (Switzerland), ARV’09 in Garmisch‐Partenkirchen (Germany) and ARV’11 in La Clusaz (France), ARV’13 will take place in Villard‐de‐Lans (French Alps). The ARV events are promoted by TELEARC and EATEL associations, which took up the legacy of the FP6 NoE Kaleidoscope and Prolearn, and the FP7 NoE Stellar, which sustained them along the past years. One main goal of the Alpine Rendez‐Vous is to bring together researchers from the different scientific communities doing research on Technology‐Enhanced Learning, in a largely informal setting, away from their workplace routines. Although originating in Europe, the ARV is highly open to other continents’ researchers and proposals. ARV is structured as a set of independent parallel workshops located at the same time in the same place. Workshops last 2 to 3 days each, half of the workshops taking place in the first part of the week and the other half in the second part, with a “common day” in the middle.

ARV’13 received 17 workshops propositions, from which 10 were organized (see list in specific tab). This international event attracted 166 researchers in education, psychology and Computer Science. Participants originated from 25 countries : Austria (2), Belgium (1), Canada (2), Cyprus (2), Denmark (3), Estonia (2), Finland (5), France (24), Germany (17), Greece (3), India (1), Israel (2), Italy (7), Norway (2), Romania (1), Serbia (1), Singapore (1), South Africa (2), Spain (7), Sweden (4), Switzerland (36), The Netherlands (8), UAE (1), UK (18) and USA (14).

Different workshop organizers are preparing specific outputs such as journal papers. A general compilation (as a book) of the Grand Challenge Problems that were identified during this week is also under preparation.
